ABOUT US

About Us

After over 30 years of experience in the human services community, and troubled by the increasing number of people "falling through the cracks" of current service systems, Sharon Bareis recognized the need for an innovative new approach. People Helping People is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded by Sharon in 2005 to help adults with disabilities set their quality of life on an upward cycle.

The programs and services we provide are determined by the needs of our target population. Our clients advise us of the needs of the community they represent, and we continually make changes to best meet the needs of the people we serve.

Our Method

An innovative combination of case management, advocacy, direct services, and collaboration with other service providers and healthcare professionals.

Our response to the challenging and multilayered problems our clients often present is to think creatively. We are dedicated to working with our clients and community resources until effective solutions are developed and implemented. People Helping People works with an ever expanding network of individuals, organizations, agencies, and faith communities to provide our clients with the education, healthcare, and social services they need to improve the quality of their lives.

Mohamed was living in a cold, barren apartment with only a mattress on the floor. He could not work due to his disabilities. His PHP case manager helped him get Social Security benefits and Section 8 housing, and to fulfill his dream of becoming a United States citizen.

Jo's health problems were making it difficult to work at her part-time job. Because she had no health insurance, she was reluctant to go for medical care. Her PHP case manager helped her navigate local health systems and went with her to all her appointments. Jo got the surgery she needed and is now working full-time, with health insurance coverage.

Jean had driven for years... before she was brutally beaten and received a traumatic brain injury. As part of rebuildng her life, she wanted to get her drivers license back. Her brain injury made it difficult to pass the written part of the licensing exam. Using the PHP driver's study guide, Jean was able to pass the test.
